About Me (and the blog)

I’m Kean Planas, a 17-year old Digital Cinema student from the Mapúa Institute of Technology. At first sight, I may look like the weird, snobbish, silent guy at the corner of the room, but I’m really not. It’s just that I find it easier to share my thoughts in writing than in spoken word. I’ve never really been a fan of small talk and socializing in general, as I only really talk when the need arises, but I always try my hardest to be friendly to people I’ve just met. And to those who know me personally, they know that I’m more than what you see in my outer shell.

My love for movies and the art behind it has led me to one of the biggest decisions I’ve ever faced in my life: shifting from Architecture to Digital Cinema. I’ve never told anyone about the shift yet except for my mother and my close friends, who were shocked, It was a bold, risky move, but it was a risk I was willing to take. There came a time when I wasn’t really happy with where my path was taking me, so I changed my direction and now, I’m here on a path where I feel the happiest.

Even before I became a Digital Cinema student, I was already expressing my lengthy opinions on the movies I’ve watched which I shared on my Facebook group for close friends and on an online forum for skyscraper enthusiasts. Although I have no experience or knowledge about film criticism, I often received positive feedback for my reviews from my fellow forum members and from my friends, which led me to starting this personal movie review blog.

My Reel Thoughts isn’t really a formal movie review blog, but as the title suggests, is a venue where I can express my thoughts and opinions on different movies, ranging from local indie and mainstream releases, to foreign arthouse films and Hollywood blockbusters. I hope you enjoy reading my content as much as I enjoy making it. 😀
