Spy (2015) | Movie Review

Starring Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Jude Law

I expected this to be a very generic spy comedy, but to my surprise, it wasn’t. It was far more complex and interesting than what I first expected. It’s great as an action film, and it’s also quite entertaing as a comedy film. Spy is no Kingsman, let me tell you that, but it mixes in the right amount of both genres to deliver, in my opinion, one of this year’s best comedies.

The plot was written well, and the acting was solid. I’m not really a fan of Melissa McCarthy, but I really liked her in this film. She was also fantastic in the action scenes. It’s refreshing to see Jason Statham do comedy, and he was terrific here. His performance here is a must-see. Jude Law wasn’t really given that much to do here, but he was good, too. There were some cheesy lines, but they don’t really bother me that much. Direction was great, the action scenes were fun and thrilling, and there are little to no dull moments.

Spy is unexpectedly good, it’s fun to watch, and is highly recommendable for those who want a good time.

My Rating: 9/10

PS. Don’t leave the theater til’ the credits end 🙂
